As a Southern California photographer, one of my favorite things to shoot is couples in their element—laughing, connecting, and just being them. And what better way to capture your love story than with a date that doubles as a professional photo session? Think of me as your personal paparazza (minus the awkward hiding in bushes). I’m there to blend into the background and document your day authentically so you can focus on the fun, not the posing. And if you’re looking for some fabulous Los Angeles date ideas, I’ve got you covered!

A Day Date that Doubles as a Photoshoot? Yes, Please!

Recently, I tagged along on the sweetest date at the iconic Santa Monica Pier, and let me tell you, it was pure magic. This adorable couple planned a playful, carefree outing, and every moment was brimming with love and laughter. Their chemistry was undeniable. They strolled hand-in-hand down the pier sharing an ice cream cone, danced by the Ferris wheel, got competitive over carnival games, made silly faces in a photo booth, and ended the evening with a shoreline stroll at sunset. I captured it all—every laugh, every glance, and every little moment in between.

Memories Made & Moments Captured

These photos? They’re a time capsule of their connection. Selfies and phone pics just don’t do justice to the little in-between moments, and those are the ones you’ll want to remember forever. Investing in a professional photographer (ahem, me!) to document your date means you’re free to relax, live in the moment, and relive it all through beautifully captured images.

If the idea of a traditional “stand here and smile” photo session makes you cringe (believe me, I get it), it’s time to think outside the box. A date photo session is all about making memories while capturing them.

14 Los Angeles Date Ideas for Your Photo Session

If you’re thinking, “Okay, I’m sold!” but wondering where else in LA you could do a date-slash-photo-session, I’ve got you covered. Here are some of my favorite Los Angeles date ideas and locations:

1. Santa Monica Pier & Beach

This one’s a classic for a reason! With the Ferris wheel’s colorful lights and the boardwalk games’ nostalgic vibe, the Santa Monica Pier has all the charm. Not to mention the golden hour lighting on the beach—unparalleled! Start with ice cream or churros on the pier, then wrap up with sandy toes and a stunning sunset over the Pacific. We can even shoot beneath the dock for an added splash of romance.

2. Griffith Park Observatory

Griffith Park is a dream for couples who love a little adventure with a view. Hike up to the observatory for sweeping views of the city skyline, or wander the trails surrounded by greenery. Bonus points if you time it for golden hour or just after sunset when the city lights twinkle.

3. Venice Canals & Boardwalk

The Venice Canals are perfect for a romantic, European-inspired vibe. Stroll over the arched bridges, admire the unique architecture, and soak up the peaceful vibes. Afterward, you can balance the romance with some quirky fun on the Venice Boardwalk—grab lunch, do some people-watching (my guilty pleasure), and let loose.

4. Malibu Wine Hikes

If wine and wanderlust sound like your thing, Malibu Wine Hikes offers the perfect mix of nature and indulgence. Explore the stunning property, sip local wines, and even meet a friendly llama or two. It’s laid-back, romantic, and oh-so-photo-worthy.

5. Echo Park Lake

Picture yourselves paddling around in a swan boat, laughing as you try to steer in sync. Echo Park Lake offers just the right mix of fun and romance, with the city skyline as your backdrop. Pack a picnic or grab tacos from nearby spots to keep the date vibes going.

6. The Arts District in Downtown LA

The Arts District is the perfect playground for couples who love a little edge and creativity. Murals, street art, and industrial-chic vibes offer a cool and colorful setting. Grab coffee at a trendy café or pop into a brewery for a post-shoot beverage.

7. Topanga Canyon

Sadly, this one is currently closed due to the fires, but I still wanted to add it on here for future referece. Be sure to check the Tapanga State Park website for updated info. Topanga Canyon serves up cozy, boho vibes in spades if you want to escape the hustle and bustle. Wander through winding trails, explore local shops, or grab a bite at a rustic café. The natural beauty of this area creates a stunning, intimate setting for photos.

8. The Getty Center Gardens

For a sophisticated cultural twist, head to The Getty Center. There’s no shortage of photo-worthy spots between the gorgeous architecture and sprawling gardens. Exploring the art exhibits adds a fun and unique touch to your date.

Abbot Kinney is where it’s at for a trendy, urban date. This vibrant street is packed with eclectic boutiques, stylish coffee shops, and some of the best eats in Los Angeles. Start your day with a matcha latte or a craft donut, wander hand-in-hand exploring the one-of-a-kind shops, and end with dinner at a chic restaurant or food truck. The mix of colorful murals and modern architecture makes every corner a photo opportunity, capturing your playful, stylish side together.

10. LACMA Lights & La Brea Tar Pits

If you want something artsy and iconic, the LACMA Urban Lights features rows of glowing lampposts that set a romantic and cinematic tone. Just a short walk away, the La Brea Tar Pits offer a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric Los Angeles. Stroll around the bubbling tar pits or visit the museum for a quirky yet educational twist to your date.

11. Kayak Adventure in Marina del Rey

For adventurous, outdoorsy couples, a kayak session is a unique way to document your date. Paddle along the glimmering water, steal a kiss in the middle of the marina, and maybe even end with a seafood dinner by the shore.

12. Downtown LA Rooftop Bars

For a chic night out, head to one of DTLA’s rooftop bars for cocktails, city lights, and sophisticated vibes. Think sleek outfits, toasts over the skyline, and a mix of candids and posed editorial-style photos.

13. The Los Angeles County Arboretum

For nature-loving couples, this botanical garden is a dream. Walk among waterfalls, lush greenery, and even peacocks roaming around. It’s romantic, peaceful, and oh-so-photogenic.

14. Old Pasadena + Colorado Street Bridge

Explore the charming streets of Old Pasadena, with its historic architecture and cozy coffee spots, then wrap it up with a sunset walk across the iconic Colorado Street Bridge.

It’s a Date! (And a Photo Session)

No matter where you choose to go, the key to a successful date photo session is to let loose and have fun. It’s about the moments in between—the laughter, the conversations, the way you naturally connect. As your photographer, I make those moments shine so you’re left with stunning photos and beautiful memories of a day well spent with your favorite person. Ready to plan your dream photo date? Let’s make some magic together.
